February update from our Sexual Violence Prevention Worker

Although February is a short month plus the schools in Moray being off for the half-term break, I have still been wonderfully busy delivering Sexual Violence Prevention workshops in Milne’s High School, Elgin Academy, Forres Academy and UHI Moray. Our themes for the workshops have been a combination of Consent, Power, Understanding Sexual Violence, Pornography and Gender-based Violence.

The Sexual Violence Prevention Programme workshops have been continuing this month, as we move ever closer to the end of term. It was especially joyful to be in classrooms during November as more Autumnal artwork was being displayed. One teacher had a giant homemade spider in their room!

Human Rights Day

Today, the 10th December, is International Human Rights Day. It marks the end of the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Based Violence and it celebrates the anniversary of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The declaration sets out the fundamental human rights that all people are entitled to be protected by and that all people and nations should universally protect. The core values of the UDHR are equality, justice, freedom and dignity.

It is great to be back visiting some of Moray’s High Schools now that the new Academic Year has started and whilst the summer break gave me scope to continue my professional development, join webinars/seminars and bring my sexual violence prevention research together, nothing quite beats being back around the young people of Moray as the Sexual Violence Prevention Programme workshops resume.

Stalking Awareness Week 2025

This week (21st-25th April) is Stalking Awareness Week. The week aims to make people more aware of what stalking is and how it might affect a victim/survivor. There are many myths and misconceptions about what stalking looks like and who perpetrates it. We hope this blog helps to shed some light on the issue and combats some of the myths and misconceptions by answering some frequently asked questions.

We’re launching our first Zine!

In May last year, members of our women’s group support programme welcomed the Mockingjays from RASASH (Rape and Sexual Assault Service Highlands) for a zine workshop. The Mockingjays are a group of survivors of sexual violence who lead creative activism workshops. Across a couple of sessions, group attendees created a zine sharing their experiences of healing and coping with sexual violence and also fighting against rape culture and patriarchy. Participants were given a pile of magazines, some stickers and some scissors & glue and were given free space to express themselves.

Human Rights Day 2024

Today is the United Nations Human Rights Day. It takes place on the 10th December every year and marks the end of 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Based Violence, a global campaign calling for an end to all forms of gender based violence.
