February update from our Sexual Violence Prevention Worker

group of studentsAlthough February is a short month plus the schools in Moray being off for the half-term break, I have still been wonderfully busy delivering Sexual Violence Prevention workshops in Milne’s High School, Elgin Academy, Forres Academy and UHI Moray. Our themes for the workshops have been a combination of Consent, Power, Understanding Sexual Violence, Pornography and Gender-based Violence.

As always, the SVPP workshops are tailored to age and stage of our young people and once again, it has been an honour to facilitate some great conversations around their knowledge, opinions and understanding of these interesting topics.

book cover of Lads by Alan BissettAs part of my own research for the bespoke GBV workshop with UHI Moray, I have been reading some books; one of which is by an author called Alan Bisset – Lads, a Guide to Respect and Consent. It is such a great book and one I recommend to everyone to read, regardless of gender or age.

Imagine my surprise to learn that Alan had actually visited Elgin Academy to work with their students and how it was such a shame I had missed him – not just to ask for an autograph in my book but also to let him know that Moray seems to have such positive movement at the moment for young people to receive powerful, supportive messages from so many different types of workshops and conversations taking place from various people.

If books are your cup of tea, please do contact us at contact@morayrapecrisis.scot and I will happily recommend some titles for you which may be of interest.

The Sexual Violence Prevention Programme runs throughout the year during a High School’s PSE lessons. For more information about the programme, please visit our website.
